The lever that springs is adjustable to fit a wide range of locks. This is especially useful for doors with narrower frames, where the cylinder is further back. A shorter lever is an excellent option for doors that have latches that can be operated by a thumb turn on the inside. Euro Cylinder Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of doors. They work by using a key to unlock a cylinder that then reveals pins which can be aligned to those inside the lock body, allowing them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro Cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with internal and external doors typically having different levels of security. The selection of a cylinder is crucial. It's dependent on the amount of use your doors and handles receive. For instance, exterior doors require a higher security cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that can improve security, such as anti-drill or anti bump properties. To make sure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it should be measured accurately. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place however in the event that this is not possible, you may remove it to take measurements. It is important to not have a cylindrical lock that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it vulnerable to snapping lock attacks. The design of the latest cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to minimize the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This will help to deflect an attack and protect your door. There are cylinders that have been designed to resist snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A special tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a quicker and easier way to gain access than the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which can make it difficult to prove insurance claims. Spring Cassette This spring cassette is found within the base plate of the door handle. It offers a spring-loaded solution to return your multipoint lock handles to their resting position after using. The handles had no spring and would droop when the locking mechanism was removed. This simple part is the best way to address this issue. It also prevents your door from getting stuck in either the closed or open position since they are difficult to close manually. These spring cassettes have been specifically designed for use with multipoint locks that are sprung, they will not fit unsprung multipoint handles and you must have a bespoke hole cut into your backplate to allow these to fit (please see image for technical diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement to broken or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are sold as one unit. They feature a square cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft. These spring cassettes offer an excellent value solution for the issue of door handles that have become sagging. They are simple to put in and will extend the life span of your uPVC doors. Contact us for more information on our range of uPVC accessories and spares.
